4×4 Tour in Senegal – From Saint-Louis to Banc d’Arguin National Park
This 4×4 tour allows you to discover the wonders of Senegal, starting from Saint-Louis and traveling to the Banc d’Arguin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1976. This park, located between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, spans 12,000 km² of marine and terrestrial zones, stretching along the Atlantic coastline for over 180 kilometers.
The park offers a unique ecosystem, ideal for observing a multitude of migratory waterbirds, attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. You will also encounter the Imraguens, a fishing community that has lived along the coast for centuries, enriching your cultural experience.
As you continue your adventure, don’t miss Diawling National Park, established in 1991, covering approximately 16,000 hectares in the Senegal River delta. This park is home to a diversity of African bird species, such as spoonbills and cormorants, as well as migratory birds, including ducks and shorebirds.

The route:
ARRIVAL IN DAKAR
Arrival in Dakar and welcome by your French-speaking guide. Transfer to the hotel
DAKAR – GOREE ISLAND – PINK LAKE – SAINT LOUIS
Breakfast. Boarding for the island of Gorée, a former trading post linked to the slave trade, rich in old houses with green shutters sheltered by baobabs, casuarinas and bougainvilleas. Visit the house of slaves. To eat lunch. Return to Dakar and drive to Lake Retba (pink), born of a lagoon in the middle of dunes and bush, which changes from pink to mauve depending on the time. 4×4 ride in the dunes. Departure to Saint Louis. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
SAINT LOUIS – DIAMA DAM – ROSSO – RKIZ
Breakfast. Departure for the Diama dam (customs formalities), link between Senegal and Mauritania, then arrival at Rosso and its covered market where the curious can do some shopping.
Lunch in a traditional restaurant before taking the Rkiz track. On your arrival, you will discover Lake Rkiz, with an area of 150 km². Serving as a water reserve in times of flooding, it has attracted a population of fishermen, breeders and farmers.
Bivouac under the stars or in a nomadic tent.
RKIZ – BOUTILIMIT
Journey to Boutilimit. There is no road to date between the two cities, all-terrain vehicles use the tracks and orange sand dunes. Picnic stop in the desert. In the afternoon you will discover Boutilimit, dominated by its fort, a remnant of the colonial era. It is the city of Cheikh Sidiya, founder of the library, recognized scholar of Timbuktu in Mali, and of Mokthar Ould Daddah, father of the independence of Mauritania. Continuation to the bivouac under the stars or in a Mauritanian tent in the dunes.
NOUAKCHOTT
Departure to Nouakchott. You will discover the desert of white dunes and multiple villages populated by nomads who have become sedentary. Arrival in Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, you will discover during a panoramic tour, the different districts: Teyaret, Ksar, Toujounine, Tevrakh Zeina , Sebkha and El Mina. This city with very few high-rise buildings is dominated by the minarets of the two mosques: Saudi in the North and Moroccan in the South. You will visit the National Museum, which traces the life of Mauritanians, where various tools, models, manuscripts and various objects brought back by caravans for millennia are exhibited. This museum also houses the national library, visit the Nouakchott market where men trade on the ground floor and women upstairs. At the end of the day, your guide will take you to the fishing port of Nouakchott and then you will go to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
NOUAKCHOTT – NIMJAT – MEDERDRA
Breakfast, Continuation to Nimjat in 4×4 by the tracks Arrival at Nimjat, known as a place of pilgrimage of the great chief marabout Cheikh Saadbou, Picnic stop. at a well under the trees Continuation to Mederdra, a village lost in the middle of a desert of dunes where Berber Moorish nomads rub shoulders. Dinner and overnight in a bivouac in a Mauritanian tent in the surroundings.
MEDERDRA – SAINT LOUIS
Breakfast. Departure towards Senegal via the south of the Trarza region through tracks and dunes. To eat lunch. Border crossing and arrival in Saint Louis. City tour and installation at the hotel. Dinner and night.
SAINT LOUIS – DAKAR
Breakfast. visit of Saint Louis, former capital with beautiful colonial houses. Continuation to Dakar and transfer to the airport.
