Arrival in Nouakchott
The Start of Your Mauritanian Adventure
Upon your arrival in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, you will be warmly welcomed at the airport by our team. A private transfer will take you directly to your hotel, where you can settle in comfortably and relax after your journey.
Nouakchott, a port city nestled between the desert and the Atlantic Ocean, offers your first immersion into the unique culture and atmosphere of Mauritania. This first night at the hotel will allow you to rest and prepare for the adventures ahead.
A carefully curated welcome experience to start your trip in calm and serenity, before setting off to discover the natural and cultural wonders of the country.
Banc d’Arguin
We explore the Banc d’Arguin National Park, passing through Imraguen fishing villages such as Nouamghar and Iwik. This will be an opportunity to discover their authentic way of life and the simplicity of the nomads’ daily routines.
The night is spent at a guesthouse, nestled in the heart of this pristine natural setting.
Banc d’Arguin: Bird Colonies
We board a traditional boat (lanche) to the islands to observe the impressive bird colonies in their natural habitat. After this immersive wildlife experience, we return in the evening.
We continue our journey through the Akchar Massif, known for its spectacular landscapes.
The night is spent in a bivouac under the stars or in a nomadic tent, offering an authentic experience in the heart of nature.
The Akchar Massif and Amatlich
We continue our adventure through the Akchar Massif, before reaching Benichab, the town of Akjoujt, and other picturesque oases. We also explore the majestic dunes of Erg Amatlich, whose towering ridges stretch across the vastness of the desert.
The evening concludes with a bivouac under the stars, accompanied by traditional tea, or in a nomadic tent, offering an authentic experience in the heart of the desert.
Amatlich – Echaîla Palm Grove
The morning begins with a departure toward the El Gleïtat Oasis, the starting point of the long Amatlich dune belt. This route then takes us to the Echaîla Palm Grove, nestled among the rocks. As you make your way through the vegetation, you’ll discover a rock shelter adorned with ancient rock paintings just a few meters away. A small spring, offering a refreshing touch, will complete this unique experience.
The evening concludes with a bivouac under the stars or in a nomadic tent, in an intimate and peaceful setting.
El Meddah Oasis
The El Meddah Oasis, nestled among the towering dunes of the Amatlich, is the largest palm grove in Mauritania. A true belt of dunes planted with palm trees, offering a spectacular landscape. This place allows us to discover the simple life of the nomads, in harmony with the surrounding nature.
The evening concludes with a bivouac under the stars or in a nomadic tent, for a complete immersion in this unique environment.
The Foum Tizigui Pass
We head to the Foum Tizigui Pass, a natural gap in the Amatlich dune belt. This dune belt, originating near the El Gleïtat Oasis, stretches for nearly 400 km. This passage, both impressive and authentic, offers a unique setting to discover the desert from a new perspective.
The evening concludes with a bivouac under the stars or in a nomadic tent, for an experience close to nature.
Return to Nouakchott
We return to Nouakchott to conclude our journey. Enjoy a stroll along the lively beaches, where the local atmosphere comes alive with the return of fishermen to the port. We will also visit the museum and the market, true reflections of the city’s cultural vibrancy.
To end the day, a dinner in town will allow you to savor local specialties before your transfer to the airport for your departure.
